Bits and bobs
- Thanks to Madame Modiste for the heads up that the MET has a new Mourning Costume exhibit - Death Becomes Her: a Century of Mourning coming. The exhibit will run from October 21, 2014 through February 1, 2015 and will feature mourning dress from 1815-1915.
- The Dreamstress is collecting your vote for the Historical Sew Fortnightly Challenge # 22. I've been pretty swamped with Costume College sewing and haven't kept up with the HSF but I'm looking forward to participating more once summer is over.
- Emperor Nero's famous rotating dining room has been discovered, how cool is that?
- There is a wonderful photo shoot of famous authors cosplaying their favorite fictional characters making the rounds on the net right now. I just love Neil Gaiman's costume!
- Laura of Shear Madness found a slew of great tutorials this week:
- How to knit a working circuit
- How to create seamless trim
- How to do a stretch fabric applique
- How to bind a v-neck
- You can get a sneak peek of Katherine's Game of Throne gown on her website. I love the colors she chose and the embroidery she's doing, she really captured the flavor of the Game of Thrones gowns but is doing her own design. She's got some nice tutorials up in conjunction with the making of this dress too.
- Speaking of embroidery, Two Nerdy History Girls have some links up to an exhibit of some of the Snowshill Collection's 18th C embroidered waistcoats that looks to die for. Prepare to droll.
