Sacqued

Lots of sewing being done here but not a lot to show for it, and precious little blogging, as I'm sure you've noticed.

I've been working on a number of my myriad projects but mostly my red Robe Française It's been interesting, I've never made a Française before, somehow they always scared me.  I've been using the JP Ryan and Simplicity patterns as bases but mostly it's been draping with a lot of reference to the Cut of Women's Clothes and Janet Arnold with a LOT of help from La Courtiere Francaise and The Fashionable Past.

It's coming along.  Whenever I get stuck and want to ponder something I work on something easy like the sleeve flounces.  I'm happy to say that this is an all stash project!  I'm finally using some painted red silk shantung I got in Texas a few years ago.  If you saw Jenny La Fleur's "Diva" dress you've seen the fabric.  And if you haven't  I'll give you a sneak peek - here it is:

Isn't it yummy?

The lining is a linen scrap here and a cotton scrap there and I'm using self fabric and a narrow gold braid/lace thing as part of the trimming.

I got one of those scalloped punches ages ago, but I have to say it never worked for me, got dull after like 2 punches.  So I'm using my scalloped pinking shears to make pinked trim.

I'm hoping to get this finished in time for the "pleating" Historical Sew Monthly Challenge which ends in February.  Wish me luck because it's going to be tough - at the end of March we go to Wonder Con which means a lot of cosplay stuff needs to be finished before then.  Yikes!  :P

    1. Isn't it lovely? I got it for a song at a discount fabric store in Houston that's now out of business.
